Day Eleven

Today is a nice day for us to do our laundry. So, early in the morning I woke up, and then I went to do my laundry before I bath. After bathing, we decided to go to HanKou; the city of Wuhan, to take a look.

We called up for a van, which costs 80 Yuan, to send seven of us to HanKou. It took around an hour journey from our school to the place. Immediately after we reached the place, we started searching for our lunch. So, we simply had fried rice as our lunch.

HanKou is always so packed. Always traffic jam and people are always crowded. Actually, it’s more or less like out Singapore’s Bugis Street. It’s just that the size is very huge.

On the journey back to our hostel, we took a cab. Again, I was on my mission again. During the journey, we asked about why are some of the cars do not have car plate? Then, the driver said. Actually, there are some inter-relationship between the owners and the government people. The owners can escape the law; the policemen cannot do anything with it. Also, there are many cars using a different number plate instead of using the original one. In case of accidents occur, illegal parking, and over speed limit, the owner of the car can escape from it.

Then, tonight, we had our dinner at the street opposite our school. In the restaurant, we shared table with a Chinese man. The Chinese was from HuangShi(黄石), a village in Hubei Province. The Chinese man was kind enough to shared his table with us. At first, when I talked to JinRong and Hansoo in English, the Chinese man actually thought that we are talking dialect, thought that we are the local here. Then, we introduced ourselves and exchange our hand phone number with him. He is very polite and excited when talking to us. To him, we are the first foreign friends that he ever known. So, he told us that if we need any help, he will be there to help us. This is how friendly he is, my new friend.

Although today did not go smooth all the way, but I am happy enough to make a new Chinese friend. The Chinese friend of mine called DengJianGuo. He shared with us with some of the cultural information that he know. He told us that not every Chinese in china can speak standard Chinese. Most of the Chinese speaks their own dialect. He actually spent some time to learn Chinese when he came Wuhan for study.
